Support and Advisory Service
Students and Parents

There is an extensive Support & Advisory Service in school for both Students & Parents.

It has become apparent that an increasing number of students need extra help and support, with both academic and personal worries and concerns. With the many changes and pressures associated with SATS, GCSE`S, AS and A2 exams, students find themselves under a great deal more pressure than in earlier years. It has also become clear over the past years, that parents have found it very useful to talk over their worries and concerns with school counsellors.

It is also becoming more apparent that some youngsters in school have other personal problems and concerns, which they find difficult to discuss with the people closest to them.
It is because of this, that we at school feel it is important to extend the range of support and advice we can offer our students, during their time at school.

The school has available a number of well qualified counsellors/advisers to help students and parents with such concerns as:-

• Difficulties with homework and coursework
• Difficulties in school and at home
• Exam pressures and nerves
• Friendships and relationships problems
• Bullying – bully and victim
• Careers and post 16 advice
• Family concerns
 • Managing anger
 • Personal skills
 • Medical
• Bereavement
• Health Issues

The advisers will also be able to direct students and parents to other appropriate support networks if necessary. The number of these support groups is growing all the time as schools are now expected to work much more closely with outside support agencies. All sessions are held during school time and where possible will remain confidential between student and advisor.

It must be stressed the Support and Advisory Service will be used in addition to and not instead of our very strong pastoral team of Tutors, Heads of Year and Ms Bailey - Student Support Manager.
They will work with students and advisors to set up strategies to overcome any difficulties a young person may face whilst attending this school.

Should you have any questions or concerns regarding this initiative, please contact the school and ask for Ms J. Bailey - Student Support Manager or Mr G.Williams - Assistant Headteacher (Students)
