 |
The courses last for one year and provide excellent opportunities
for further training, Advanced Vocational Courses or employment.
Some students do not feel ready for AS and A level courses at the
end of year 11, or may not have achieved the grades they expected.
After successfully completing the one year vocational course many
students have the required entry qualifications and confidence to
transfer to AS and A2 courses.
The courses are student based and while exams are still important
there is a much greater emphasis on portfolio work.
 |
Over a two-week period, students spend six days in Tomlinson Hall.
Most of this time is used to gain Key Skills qualifications in
Information Technology, Communications and Application of Number.
Assignments are based on real life experiences and enable the
students to learn and practise skills in useful and practical
situations. There is a definite emphasis on teamwork to advance
knowledge, skills and problem solving. |
Once a fortnight, students work in one of the feeder primary
schools. This provides valuable experience of working with others
and taking on responsibility.
| Four days are spent at Tamworth College where students concentrate
on their chosen vocational course. Workshops and facilities are of
the highest standard. Tomlinson Hall and the College work closely
together to make sure students get the most from their course and
enjoy the experience.
Students have the benefit of continuing with school life whilst
experiencing the challenge of a new one at college. They make new
friends, gain new skills and build new confidence.

GCSE Courses
We offer GCSE re-sit courses in English and Maths only for those
students who fail to reach a Grade C. Since many degree courses and
jobs demand these specific qualifications all such students are
expected to re-sit these examinations in the Sixth Form. |
