New Face for International Links

This is the year for all things new and now that we’ve settled into the new building, our attention has turned to revamping the international pages on the school’s website.

With all the international activity that has been going on over the past 12 months, it was felt that we needed to be shouting about it to the world. In view of the fact that a website should be an ever changing, constantly evolving entity, we thought the site was looking a bit tired, and as it hadn’t been updated for a long time was due a facelift.

It’s now much more user friendly and informative. As well as Big Mag, it is intended to post pupils’ work, projects, reports of visits and details of forthcoming trips so it’s well worth having a look from time to time.

New Homes for Language Assistants

It’s that time of year again! We have just applied for French, German, Chinese and Comenius language assistants. Consequently in September/October 2008 we will be needing to have some accommodation for them. If anyone has a spare room, or is happy to take on a language assistant for 10 months, then please contact Mrs Borders, Language College Administrator, who would love to hear from you. Indeed, if you have already hosted a language assistant and would be happy to repeat the experience, please contact Mrs Borders on 01827 702205 ext 284.

Work Experience

Work experience is going ahead as planned this year. Lizzie Poole in 13GAJ will be winging her way off to Nivelles in Belgium to start her week as a teaching assistant there, whilst Kyle Burrows (12HCK) and Kimberley Jones (12DOH) will be off to our partner school in Holdorf, Germany, accompanied by Mrs Lund. Kyle and Kim will be teaching in the primary school there and staying with host families. All will no doubt have a fantastic time and will want to repeat the experience next year.

Evening Classes

After Easter, evening classes will start again on Monday 7 April and will end on Tuesday 20 May which will bring us to half term. Following this, evening classes will finish. If you are interested in learning a new language in 2008/09 then the new term will start in October 2008. Please contact Mrs Borders on 01827 702205 ext 284 if you are interested in getting involved.

On Friday 27 June 2008 teachers and pupils from Poland, Germany and Spain will be coming over to Polesworth. Plans are underway for us to take part in Polesworth Abbey’s Garden Party on the Saturday, visit the Black Country Museum on Sunday, take part in a concert on Monday and free time on Tuesday with everyone going back to their respective countries on Wednesday 2 July.

We are looking for volunteers to host a pupil for those days. On the Monday and Tuesday the visitors will go to school and take part in the school day with their host partner. This is a fantastic opportunity to make new friends from other countries and to possibly go over on a return visit. We still have one year to go and it is envisaged that there may be opportunities for people who have hosted on this occasion to visit Spain and Poland next year.

If you have been involved in a Comenius trip before and are willing to host, or you haven’t and would like to host a pupil from one of our partner schools, or if you would like further information, please contact Mrs Borders Language College Administrator.
