On Tuesday 19th February students at PILC were involved in the
production of a new Psychology DVD. This DVD is being made by Online
Classroom (www.onlineclassroom.tv)
who produces a range of educational resources that are supplied to
schools and colleges throughout the UK.
The DVD is being produced to support the introduction of the new A
Level Psychology Specifications being introduced in September 2008 and
was co-scripted and directed by Mrs Gajic (Head of Social Science). It
is the latest in a long line of collaborations between Online Classroom
and PILC. The first DVD was made way back in 2001, starring none other
than our own Miss Kerrie Reading as a fresh-faced 6th form student!
Sixth form students were filmed throughout the day and were very
happy to volunteer to help (five minutes of fame, seems to turn heads!)
Students’ roles involved acting as attentive students, being interviewed
and even pretending to be love struck fans of a celebrity chef! Two of
our student bands “Stained Glass Alice” and “Damn Fine Future” got to
perform for the cameras, and were then interviewed by an actor
pretending to be a record producer. Younger students also got involved
when the school canteen was used as a backdrop for a section of the DVD
about healthy eating. The lunchtime assistants are getting so used to
the camera, after Niki’s X-factor fame, that they will be getting agents
soon!
The day gave students a real insight into the world of media
production. Most were very surprised by how long it actually takes to
film a very short piece. The crew were happy to answer the technical
questions that some of our students had. The students can’t wait to see
themselves immortalised on film. And, of course the fame of PILC will
spread throughout the UK.
The film crew and actors were very complimentary about PILC and the
students. They remarked that the school had a wonderful atmosphere and
that the students were very friendly and helpful.
